Community Activities Tables

Since 2019, our free community activities tables have provided opportunities for creating, learning and play to anyone who stops by. In this STEM- and art-based program, teaching artists are on hand to facilitate themed activities. Our art activities employ natural and recycled materials whenever possible. Activities are open-ended, encouraging a state of creative “flow” as participants become fully immersed in the process of making. Activities tables are a place where visual arts and crafting are often merged seamlessly with a sciencey, inquiry and discovery-based swirl of fun.

Some of our previous themed activities have included:
– Loose parts lab
– An exploration of symmetry through nature
– Cardboard city construction
– Collaborative painting
– Musical instrument exploration
– Sound experiments
– Reflective tape bonanza
– Tabletop art

Some of the locations where our community arts table has appeared include:
– The Beacon and Newburgh Farmers Markets
– Spirit of Beacon Day
– I Am Beacon Back to School Bash
– Beacon Community Barbeque
– The Taproots Festival
– The Strawberry Festival
– Juneteenth Riverfront Festival

UPCOMING COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES:

Loose Parts Lab, July 28 10am to 1pm, Beacon Farmers Market: Loose Parts Play Theory was created by an architect, Simon Nicholson in the ’70s. This is an amazing way to approach open-ended play plus an opportunity for creativity. The bonus? We’re recycling and making art out of cool stuff!

The possibilities are endless, we’re bringing all kinds of loose parts, please bring your kiddos and your imagination!
