Beginning Metal Fabrication for 5th-8th grade
Taught by Kit Burke-Smith
Class dates: Wednesdays, 5pm-6:15pm, September 27 to December 6 (no class 11/22)
Explore the fundamentals of metal fabrication! We will cover the basics of designing for metal, learning how metal works and moves, cutting and refining shapes with jeweler’s saws and files, and applying a patina to finished pieces to change the color of the metal. Our first project will be customizing a copper light switch plate, followed by a second sculptural pierced shape project, like an ornament or a pendant. Kids will create functional objects, learn new skills and have fun! Fee includes all materials needed.
