    Compass Arts is thrilled to be working with Hudson Hills Academy to bring our amazing band and strings program back for a second year. And if you are one of Hudson Valley's many parents engaged in homeschooling we are hoping that this year your child will join us! Compass Arts is known for its wholistic, mashup-style approach to arts experience and education, and the Compass Arts Band and String Program is ensemble music done up in Compass Arts style. Justin Keller, Daniel Frankhuizen, Larry Moses, and Bryan Kopchak, are our brilliant, inspired teachers. They love their craft and are active professional Broadway/classical/idie performers who bring their unique energy and flair to this innovative and fun program. The Compass Arts Band and String Program makes ensemble music cool!

    Compass Arts Studio Art Drawing into Painting Kathy MossStudio Art: Drawing into Painting for 6th-12th grade 
    Taught by Kathy Moss
    Class dates: Mondays, 6pm-8pm, September 25 to December 4 (no class 11/9)

    This class is open to all students in grades 6 to 12 who want to draw and paint from observation and is appropriate for all levels of experience. Learn observational drawing techniques while exploring materials such as pencil, charcoal, ink and ink wash, watercolor and oil painting, concepts such as positive and negative space, additive and subtractive mark making, and the picture plane. Students will be introduced to the works of old and new master artists through reproductions while acquiring skills of seeing and drawing gesture, proportion, scale, weight, volume, and considering subject and narrative. Students will learn and hone their skills in color mixing, value, and composition related decision making. All aspects of making a compelling picture will be discussed - shape, size, format, surface, in addition to having fun!

    Compass Arts Beginning Metal Fabrication Kit Burke-SmithBeginning Metal Fabrication for 5th-8th grade
    Taught by Kit Burke-Smith
    Class dates: Wednesdays, 5pm-6:15pm, September 27 to December 6 (no class 11/22)

    Explore the fundamentals of metal fabrication! We will cover the basics of designing for metal, learning how metal works and moves, cutting and refining shapes with jeweler’s saws and files, and applying a patina to finished pieces to change the color of the metal. Our first project will be customizing a copper light switch plate, followed by a second sculptural pierced shape project, like an ornament or a pendant. Kids will create functional objects, learn new skills and have fun! Fee includes all materials needed.
